Allanah from @our.littlegreenhouse joins us in this Happy Homes article where she will share with us her nursery design tips and her favourite home decor items!
Hi Allanah! In a nutshell can you tell us a little bit about yourself..
How would you describe your interior style?
This question is always a hard one because I feel like my style is a real mix. I love minimalist styling and neutral shades but I also like to throw in some colour pops, especially rusts, peachy pinks and oranges.
What room in your home do you spend the most time?
Definitely the kitchen and living space, this is why we wanted it to be an open plan style space. I love that when I’m in the kitchen I can see the dining and living area. It’s true that the kitchen really is the heart of a home and I love ours.
When styling a room do you always plan / moodboard the space or do you collect decor as you go?
Depends on what I’m going for but I usually go with the flow and I always love switching and changing things up!What are your top tips for styling a nursery?
Keep it minimal and simple. Pick a colour theme and go with it but also have fun!!! I went quite neutral with this space because I wanted it to be a calm place for pops and I. I had so much fun doing up poppys nursery and we love going in there and playing.
Which part of the day do you love the most?
Afternoon in our home as we get the most beautiful light in our living area through our windows!
How do you make a nursery room feel cozy?
Two of my fav purchases in Pops nursery are my Miss Amara rug which adds so much warmth and also the Felix Il Tutto chair. It’s the most comfy thing in the world! I love snuggling in on it and it definitely makes me cosy ahaha! I also used warm tones like oranges and rusts which I feel brings lots of relaxing, cosy vibes to the space.
What are some items in your home that you cannot live without?
I love art in my home. We painted all our walls white so we could play with art and colour. I love that art can change the mood of room and we constantly change it around our home. So definitely cannot live without that. I also love greenery in a home so all my plants and is Norman an item? Can’t live without him either ahaha.
Have you found any items / decor an absolute game changer since becoming a mum?
Poppy loves her Wynta and Willem baby nest and we use that daily! To be honest newborn bubs don’t need to much (which I’ve now learnt) so we haven’t changed to much around our home as yet. We do have a Snoo which I (and Poppy) are loving so far. Poppy is 9 weeks and sleeping quite well, unsure if it’s the Snoo or just her but I’m not complaining either way!Tell us about Norm and where his favourite place in the home is to hang out?
Norm is our 5 year old French Bulldog and our first baby. He is very very spoilt. Where is his fav place in our home? Where ever we are! He literally does not let us out of his sight and literally waits for us when we shower. He’s a big cutie and has been a great big brother.
What do you look for when choosing artwork for your home?
I love supporting local, Australian artists and most of the art in our home are Australian artists. Colour pops are a must. If I look at it and it makes me smile and my heart sing, then that’s all that matters.
What are your top 5 small decor / interior businesses you love to support?
More than five businesses but five categories aha…Baby decor @lauriaustralia
Home decor @paolaandjoy @siestawalls @jonique.co
@kailani_the_label @miamimade_ @homefullyco
Dried florals @millaroseau
Gift ideas @almahandcraftedbynature
Organisation @little_label_co
Do you prefer fresh or dried blooms?
Both!!! I love dried as they last beautifully for so long but I also love the way fresh flowers bring so much life to a room. Proteas are my all time favourites.
When did you decide to create an instagram for your home?
I created my Instagram when we started our building journey to find different styles and inspiration. It then became a place for me to track our build progress and eventually became the account I have now. A big shift towards styling, decor and lifestyle. I love using it as a little creative outlet space and it’s been a great way to meet like minded people. I’ve made some awesome Insta besties.
Artwork featured: Archway Breeze, and Island Spritz in A3 size.
What is your favourite collaboration(s) to date?
@siestawalls was a really fun collab as they do such a different product and I loved creating reels for them. They’re also such a kind company with great customer services so it’s awesome to support them.
I loved working with @ecosa_sleep they have created great earth friendly and sustainable furniture and they’re an Australian company!
Working with @bedbathntable and @sheridan was so much fun as I am obsessed with linen and bedding and love styling it all.
Do you have an upcoming project you can share with us?
We’re focussing on our outdoor area at the moment coming into summer and cannot wait to show some content including some outdoor table set ups. Of course Christmas is coming so we will be doing some Christmas content! My fav time of the year!!!!
