Happy Homes with Bec

In this Happy Home's article we are welcoming Bec from @that.house.with.the.pink.door, a boss mom who will be taking us through her tips on decorating a family-friendly home with her Coastal Boho style.

Hi Bec! Tell us a little about your beautiful family..

Hi there! I’m Bec. I am 38 & a Mama to 3 gorgeous daughters! I’m a #bossmama, owning a little boutique home hair salon. My husband, Alex runs a business also, doing all thing House. Decks, Pergolas, Landscaping, outdoor kitchens. You name it, he can do it! Makes it very handy for when I come up with project ideas around our home! My absolute fave hobby is decorating our home!

What are your top tips on decorating a family-friendly home?

My number 1 tip for decorating a family friendly home would be storage! Lots of pretty storage that can also double as gorgeous styling pieces! Cute baskets, boxes and cabinets! All great for hiding all the toys and bits n pieces!

How would you describe your overall style and aesthetic?

My overall style her at ‘that house with the pink door’ I would say is ‘Coastal Boho’. A fairly neutral aesthetic with touches of Blush and Peach tones.

How do you handle clutter in your home?

Ok, I think I’ve answered this one a couple of question back! LOTS of pretty storage helps minimise the clutter. Our eldest daughter, Miss 11 is a bit OCD like her Mama so her room is always neat & styled beautifully. But Miss M our 7 year old is a whole different story! Storage boxes in a cute rattan cabinet are a must in her room for all the barbies otherwise her room looks like a tornado has hit!

Is there a room in your home that presented a challenge? If so how did you overcome it?

The only room that presented as a bit of a challenge was the study. It was made smaller to accommodate the salon being built. It’s quite narrow but we put our minds together and built a slimline double desk. It ended up quite cute.

There was also the top of the staircase that was quite bare but we added the ‘Fizzy Sherbet’, ‘Surfmist Peach’ & ‘Chai River’ prints to fill the space! We can enjoy them from both upstairs and downstairs! They tie the 2 area’s beautifully!

Where did you find inspiration for your nursery?

When I started the design process for our Nursery the first thing I did was contact Erin to see if she had any new prints in the pipeline that might be perfect for a nursery. And it was fate that the Fauna Bloom Collection was coming together. After being lucky enough to have a sneak peek at the collection I knew these pieces were going to be the centre piece of our Nursery and the rest of the room was designed around the collection!

What’s the first step you take when redesigning a space?

When redesigning a space I will always get researching Instagram for inspo and then create mood boards to start visualising the space!

What room in your home have you enjoyed styling the most?

Oooh, that’s a tough one! I don’t think I have a favourite! I’ve loved styling all of our bedrooms to suit all of our personalities! They’ve all got the perfect chill and calming vibes we all wanted for our rooms! I also really loved styling our arch nook area too! A fun little DIY project!

What is your favourite trend in home design at the moment?

I really don’t have a favourite home design trend at the moment. But I do really love all the curves and soft lines that are around again! There’s just something so pretty about curves!

What are some of your favourite family activities?

We love getting out for family walks, when Melbourne’s crazy weather permits us! Another thing we enjoy is DIY projects! Last year our favourite family DIY project was our Pallet Herb Garden. We are also on the hunt for a caravan at the moment. Looking forward to some fun family adventures!

What are some must have decor items in bubs room?

Some of my fave nursery decor must haves would be our cute bookshelves. We love books in our house! The chest of drawers and change basket. And also the playmat and wooden play gym that Alex and the girls made for bubby. All gorgeous and super practical!

What are your favourite stores / brands to find home decor?

I always love Adairs. But I do really try to support small business as much as I can. Some of my faves are Coastal Lane Candles, Bohteak, Fleur Forevero. There are many more I could list but we don’t have all day!

What made you decide to start a home styling instagram?

As with many people l, we started our build right in the thick of the first year of Covid (nightmare!) so I decided to start our instagram gram so my family and friends in South Australia could follow along with our progress. I’ve always loved interior styling too so it was perfect way to keep busy during lockdowns as I wasn’t allowed to work. I have been so blown away by how many love our home and my styling! It’s inspiring! This community is so supportive and I’m so grateful for the friendships and followers!

What room / area of your home are you refreshing next?

Hmmm….I don’t think there are any big projects coming. Just little things like finishing our pizza oven area, firing out the built in wardrobes and getting sheers for our big void area.
My hubby is already bored now everything is almost complete! He’s always on the lookout for a reno project home on a big block of land! So I guess….watch this space!
